Vision of Stonehenge Woman. It took several years before I came across the right materials for this necklace, inspired by a necklace that came to me in a dream. I’ve made 2 of them, one for myself and the other for…? It looks like something you’d find buried under one of the great standing stones or in a barrow.
This talisman piece contains several types of amber, treasured by the Celts (among others) in the Bronze Age, Roman, and medieval years. Large chunks of mossy green, young (only a few million years old) amber, milky and rich honey colored amber from Russia and Lithuania. The smooth, rounded organic forms beg to be held and caressed, warming to one’s touch immediately. I’ve included that ancient Celtic goddess symbol, the spiral, and placed it to hang directly over the heart as a protective element. There is a smaller spiral further up toward the neck, and also a bead ornamented with small circles, a feminine symbol and also a protective (deflecting the evil eye) motif.
All metal elements are of sterling silver and hand made by the Hill People tribe, and several white disks, cut from conch shell by Naga people of India. I included them because shells are connected with water, and the full moon.
Amber is a light material, this necklace is not heavy.
